Athlete Opportunity Fund

When a young athlete earns the chance, we help them get there.

Getting an athlete onto a court or surfboard is only the beginning. When qualified young athletes earn meaningful competitive opportunities but financial barriers stand in their way, KŪLIA will seek to help.

How the fund works

Identify the opportunity. Then remove the obstacle.

01

An opportunity is earned

An athlete qualifies for a tournament, camp, training block or competition that would genuinely advance their development.

02

Need is reviewed

Eligibility is assessed against written, objective and mission-based standards, with financial controls and conflict-of-interest procedures in place.

03

The gap is closed

Approved athletes receive full or partial assistance for Board-approved expenses so the opportunity is actually reachable.

What assistance can cover

Board-approved expenses.

Eligible athletes may receive full or partial assistance toward the real costs that stand between them and a competition they have already earned.

Governance

Financial assistance will be governed by written eligibility standards, financial controls and conflict-of-interest procedures adopted by the Board.

  • Tournament entry fees
  • Surf competition fees
  • Inter-island airfare
  • Mainland airfare
  • Lodging
  • Ground transportation
  • Athletic-equipment transportation
  • Coaching associated with approved competition
  • Training opportunities
  • Camps and clinics
  • Required equipment
  • Reasonable competition-related meals
  • Other approved developmental expenses

We don’t only want to identify opportunity. We want to help young people reach it.

Who the fund is for

Athletes facing real barriers.

Athlete assistance uses objective, mission-based eligibility standards. Special attention is given to families and communities experiencing barriers such as these.

  • Financial hardship
  • Limited access to sports facilities
  • Limited access to coaching
  • Geographic isolation
  • Inter-island travel costs
  • Lack of school-based beach programs
  • Limited exposure to competitive opportunities

Athletes who benefit from KŪLIA are encouraged to give back — through mentorship, community clinics, beach cleanups, service projects and helping younger athletes.

Athlete inquiry

Tell us about the athlete.

Share the opportunity and the obstacle. A KŪLIA representative will follow up with next steps and the current eligibility standards.

This form is an inquiry, not an application decision. Assistance depends on available funding and Board-approved eligibility standards.

If the athlete is under 18, a parent or legal guardian should complete this form.
