Our mission
Opportunity should not depend on a family’s ability to pay.
KŪLIA Surf & Beach Collective exists to create opportunity for Hawaiʻi’s youth through beach volleyball, surfing and ocean sports — with a special commitment to young people and communities facing financial or social barriers to participation.
The mission
What we are here to do.
We will work to expand access to quality courts, coaching, equipment, competitions and travel while promoting education, mentorship, environmental stewardship, cultural respect and community service.
Our long-term mission is to help establish beach volleyball as an accessible high-school sport throughout Hawaiʻi, develop and improve courts across the islands, and create pathways that allow deserving young athletes to pursue opportunities — from their first experience on the beach through high-school, collegiate, national and international competition.
Our purpose
Hawaiʻi has extraordinary young people and a deep connection to the beach and ocean.
Yet participation in competitive beach and ocean sports can become expensive.
Training, equipment, tournament fees, inter-island airfare, mainland travel and lodging can place meaningful opportunities beyond the reach of many families.
KŪLIA exists to help close that gap.
Who we will serve
Youth in Hawaiʻi — especially where the barriers are highest.
Special attention will be given to communities and families experiencing barriers such as these. Athlete assistance will use objective and mission-based eligibility standards.

Island-wide vision
Bigger than one court, one school or one island.
Our long-term goal is to create meaningful programs and partnerships across every island. Each community is different — KŪLIA will listen first and work with local communities to determine what type of facility, program or assistance provides the greatest benefit.
